Care & Handling
Ammolite is used in all types
of jewelery design. Ammolite gems finished
as "naturals"
are more subject to external damage by scuffing, scratching, and
chipping, due to the soft and delicate nature of the gem matrix.
"Naturals"
are best used in jewelery designs such as broaches, pendants, or
earings but not in ring settings. However, they still require
care in storage.
Such pieces
of jewelery with "natural"
ammolite gems set in them should be kept in a seperate
container away from other pieces of jewelery that may come in contact
with and damage them. Chameleon
Ammolite Products International [CAPI]
does not recomend these types of gemstones be used in jewelery that
the buyier wishes to keep for longivity and durability.
Chameleon
Ammolite Products International [CAPI]
will however recomend and guarantee any of its gems that it has
maticulously preserved and protected by laminating a hard
capping material to the gem matrix forming doublets and triplets.
(See
our technical page)
Recomended
care of [CAPI]
gems:
1.
Do not expose the gemstone to extreme temperatures.
(Keep
within temperatures the the humanbody can endure.)
2.
Do not expose the gemstone to pressure when mounting into a setting.
(10
Karat gold is not recomended for settings with prongs.)
3.
Do not clean ammolite jewelry in ultrasonic bath
and/or steam cleaners.
We do not
recomend ammolite jewelery for everyday rough wearing.
Although the cap will protect the ammolite
from scratches, care should be taken to aviod blows that could result
in the separation of the bonded layers.
